The uviblox® FOX technology for the removal of pollutants and odors
In addition to volatile organic pollutants (VOC), common impurities in gas streams are also odors, inorganic substances, or microorganisms. Often, exhaust air streams also contain several of these components as a mixture, which must be filtered out of the air by a suitable exhaust air purification system.
For example, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), alcohols, organic acids, and bacteria can be found in the exhaust air of wastewater treatment plants and sewage sludge tanks.
Complex mixtures of odorous substances are formed during many biochemical and technical processes, such as fermentation, roasting, or decomposition. In the production and processing of paints, inks, and coating materials in paint shops or in the automotive industry, a large number of organic solvents are used, which enter the air cycle via air extractions and pose a danger to human health and the environment. The need for comprehensive exhaust air purification is obvious and is prescribed in the TA Luft as well as in national and international laws and regulations.
With the combination of different cleaning methods, uviblox GmbH offers exhaust air cleaning solutions to clean exhaust air streams with complex pollutant mixtures in an energy-efficient and reliable way.
With uviblox® FOX technology, air pollutants are converted to pollutant-free and odorless air ingredients such as water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) by UV irradiation and the process of photo-oxidation.
Depending on the type and concentration of pollutants, uviblox offers a variety of methods for exhaust air purification:
- Concentration by means of an adsorption wheel
- Photo-oxidation by means of UV-C light
- Catalytic oxidation
- Adsorption on activated carbon filters
- Scrubber

Disinfection during exhaust air purification - fighting the battle against bacteria
The disinfection of air has long been one of the standard applications of photo-oxidation technology. Bacteria such as E. coli, Pseudomonas, Pneumococci, and Streptococci are inactivated by irradiation with UVC light at 254nm wavelength. During this process of exhaust air purification, the DNA, proteins, and other cell components are irreversibly damaged, so that the microorganisms can no longer reproduce and die. In this method of exhaust air purification for industry, the dreaded exponential growth processes of microorganisms are inhibited. In addition to bacteria, viruses, and fungal spores, plankton and other small organisms are reliably killed in the air, and the exhaust air flow is disinfected.
